We're on a mission to bring contextually relevant, place-based civics education to rural communities across the Canadian Prairies—and we’re looking for passionate, diverse people to join us.

We're building something our allies in the non-profit, academic and community organization fields tell us is unique: an initiative rooted in rural realities, grounded in community, and driven by steadfast commitment to democratic principles.

We know that committing to volunteer civic engagement like this can be difficult. Whether you're deeply committed to rural life, democracy, or civic education, or simply curious about how you can contribute, there's a place for you here.

So, we’ve created flexible membership tiers to make participation easy and meaningful for as many people as possible.

You can join at any tier and move between them as your availability and interest shift.

Membership Tiers & Roles

Passionate

  • Commitment: 2 years

  • Time: Up to 4 hours/week

  • Perfect for:

    • Those seriously interested in rural politics, democracy, civic engagement, or related academia

    • Potential future core team members

  • Possible Contributions:

    • Participate in field visits with the core team

    • Assist in grant and report writing

    • Lead travel coordination

    • Attend and contribute to team meetings

Curious:

  • Commitment: 1 year

  • Time: Up to 2 hours/week

  • Perfect for:

    • Those exploring how they might fit in

    • People interested but unsure of long-term availability

  • Possible Contributions:

    • Help with research (literature reviews, data collection, jurisdictional scans)

    • Join relevant meetings when interested or invited

CV Builder

  • Commitment: 4 months (1 term)

  • Time: Task-based, flexible

  • Perfect for:

    • Those looking to gain experience and build their resume

    • People who want clear, structured contributions

      without ongoing meetings

  • Possible Contributions:

    • Take on short-term tasks like blog writing, outreach, data entry

    • Support on social media, research, or website content

    • No meetings — just tasks with clear deadlines

Seasonal

  • Commitment: Variable

  • Time: Variable

  • Perfect for:

    • Supporters with limited current availability

    • People looking to join in a bigger way during summer or specific times

  • Possible Contributions:

    • Stay connected as a future contact

    • Jump in when opportunities align with your schedule

Core Team

Core team members are responsible for making all decisions about the organization’s direction and future. While new members are welcome to contribute at all levels, joining the core team is based on an established working relationship. If you’re interested, we encourage you to start at the level that fits best and grow with us.

Whether you're contributing a few hours a month or helping guide the ship, your time and ideas matter. We’re building a grassroots initiative from the ground up and that means every research task, every post, every insight helps push our mission forward.
